PlusSt. Louis Residents Fight to Keep Anheuser-BuschSt. Louis Residents Fight to Keep Anheuser-BuschThe Associated PressBelgian brewer InBev is offering a big payday to shareholders of Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., but its bid to create the world's largest beer company is already facing a major obstacle in St. Louis. (June 12)Beer drinkers in St. Louis aren't raising their glasses to this deal. Belgian brewer In-Bev is offering 46 billion dollars to buy fellow beer maker Anheuser Busch. And the prospect of a name change is upsetting many hereSOTQuite honestly it's very sad because St. Louis has identified with Anheuser-Busch.SOTIt doesn't make me feel very good. That's one of our claims to fame here in St. Louis.Still the unsolicited bid may be too good to pass up as the 65-dollar-a-share offer is above what the company's stock is currently trading at.But the maker of Budweiser is already facing stiff pressure not to sell.Already one Web site has popped up calling the company an American brand and urging it to stay that way.And many we caught up to share that sentiment.SOTIt would be the end of an era.SOTYou don't ever want to lose a kind of cornerstone in your community, someone who is a big player. These people aren't alone. The governor of Missouri is also opposing the deal and he's directing the state's department of economic development to see if there's a way to stop it. ___ ___, The Associated Press.

I cited your own words in regard to "pegging the USD to the price of gold." That's dishonest? This is an academic argument we're having. If you're not properly informed & equipped to state your case (which as I've demonstrated, you're clearly not), you're free to leave. If anything, you reacted with hostility first ("You're a moron. (...) Shut your mouth, wise up"). Now you respond with cheap personally-aimed epithets ("dishonest & evil")? I'll be waiting for your explanation on money privatiz.
FranklyMisterShankly (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I have no idea what your point really is, especially after I adequately demonstrated that the gold standard is a pipe dream. Do you want me to provide models, graphs & article citations to make it more plain for you?
grantsinmypants2 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I'm not going to answer you. Not only are you clearly dishonest - attributing to me a support for govt pegging when i made it clear that I advocate that as an INTERMEDIATE step towards money privatization. But more than that, you're sitting here blatantly advocating your "right" to force me to accept your medium of exchange. As if issuing my own IOUs somehow threatened you. You and your ideas are manifestly evil. You deserve no answer except the one you've already introduced: brute force
