" It's an art. It's a science. It's a marriage of vapor and water. From the elite to the illegal, the banned, to the celebrated, the distillation of spirits is a 50 billion dollar a year business. We will visit brandy, liqueur, moonshine, and absinthe distilleries to see how this magic is done. A trip to the Christian Brothers Distillery in northern California will reveal the secrets of how brandy is made and in the Deep South we observe a working moonshine still. Then it's off to France, where we visit the Courvoisier Cognac distillery and at the Jade Absinthe Distillery we see how this controversial drink is made. Includes expert commentary and historical perspective given by Bon Appetit's Anthony Dias Blue."

Agreed shaokem. I also have an appreciation for Lucid not only as a primer for better absinthes as you noted but also because I believe it helped get the ball rolling for more absinthes (which hopefully means better absinthes) to make their way into the US. Already there are more than 12 absinthes available in the US.

i have tried it, and its ok... its not nearly as good in my opinion. its good for people stepping into the absinthe world for the first time though, so i give it up for that. but once you have a true absinthe one not changed to meet what they think americans will enjoy... then you're appreciation changes. Lucid is a good back up for when you're waiting on or saving up for a better.

Have you even tried it? It sounds as if you haven't. I would urge you to. While it is not up to the standards of the Jade line- it is very good for the price and accessibility. BTW Why do you think Breaux would put out a shit product to the "uninformed market", you know this guy has a lot of credibility and respect for Absinthe.

this is a boring question. What does it taste like, or can you only taste the sugar?

i'm sorry... i'm a absinthe purest, and Lucid is by far not a absinthe i'd buy. i may try a glass... but i fear its another one of the mass produced absinthe after the uninformed market.

you can buy a bottle of absinthe in the states from this guy personally (not really, but from his company) for about 60 bucks. called Lucid. there are other brands as well. and yes, it does contain the Grande Wormwood herb. no fakie stuff. and no, it does not make you hallucinate- thujone is a convulsant, not a hallucinagen. in high doses will make you retch, not see things.
