str8nnd-not really comparing...more like representing her dad as a nazi. Her dad was obviously a powerful, strong, influence. Maybe intimidating. She represents herself as a jew and him as a nazi. She's admitting a connection and a barrier. In the poem, she admits to his memory, her own suicide attempt. Maybe he's a part of her suicidal despair. The phone thing seems to sever her ties to him. I dunno...that's what it seems like to me. She's dark.

yes - but phonetic adaption that is that strong is usually quite rare unless it is forced. don't get me wrong i think plath's work is phenomenal, it was just a comment.

Americans were originally British. Two hundred years ago, we all sounded British. Over time we developed our own accent, but in Sylvia Plath's time, we were still in the process of metamorphosis.
