Melvins consider themselves "sludge metal". not punk. I have to agree with them. Punk is Dead Kennedy's and Adolescents, Melvins sound nothing like them.

Funny you should say that because what grunge has in common with disco is none of the major disco groups of that era considered themselves to be disco. Same thing is true with grunge. Nirvana, Mudhoney, and the Melvins were all punk bands. Alice in Chains, Tad, and Soundgarden were all metal bands and Pearl Jam was (and still is) a contemporary rock band. Everyone else was just simply following a new trend.

As a kid I loved the "Grunge" (What a retarded word) scene. But as a 20 year old, It's to fucking depressing. A bunch of self loathing kids crying about how there parents got a divorce. I love all these bands and I'm sure the guys are awesome, but the music isn't for me. Most grunge bands lack something more, all there songs sound the same.
