they invented American style power metal (another example: Beyond Fear...Tim "Ripper" Owens-former Judas Priest, former Iced Earth, now also with Yngwie)

They fall under 2 primary genre's. Heavy Metal and Power Metal.. although they are primary Heavy Metal, The power metal side is most definatly noticable
