Mike Ditka: It's About Helping the Players!
Legendary Mike Ditka, former tight end and coach for the Chicago Bears, led a press conference, on September 18, 2007, held at the 101 Lounge, near Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C. It was sponsored by the "Gridiron Greats" group; see, gridironsgreats.org for more background information on it. The focus of the session dealt with what many ex-NFL players perceive as the gross inadequacy, the unfair maintenance and the mean-spirited manner in which the retirement, health insurance, and disability plan/system, established by the NFL, supposedly, on their behalf, is set up and administered. Coach Ditka said the efforts of the Gridiron Greats is "all about helping the people who need help." A song the group is working on to popularize their cause, recalling the exploits of many of the NFL players from yesteryear, was introduced. For a fuller version of the press conference, along with statements from eleven other former NFL players, (one hour, 14 minutes), can be found at: http://video.google.com/videop...
