The feed mechanism for the M-60 is borrowed from the MG-42. In fact, some parts are interchangeable. The M-60 is a group of ideas from several guns, and not put together very well, making the M-60 a lackluster pile of problems.

We Americans tried copying it in 1944. A fellow got one of the dimensions wrong while copying parts and it never worked! One mistake stopped us from adopting this inexpensive reliable MG in the 1950's...

Yes. I carried an M60 in the Army. Feed mechanism is almost identical. What I could never understand is why the U.S. took a few good features of the '42 while designing the M60 and incorporated some of their own very bad ones. For instance, the M60's barrel had the bipod directly attached to it. When you changed the barrel, that spare had it's own bipod attached. Needless extra weight! Flash suppressor staked on, and comes loose. Receiver riveted together. Leaf spring easily lost. Bolts crack.
