With the windlight enhancements, it seems to have pretty decent graphics. Of course, you need to be in areas that use decent textures and nice builds. From your description, I don't believe you were even close to the right places.

Actually, in Teen Second Life, you can transfer your money made in the game for real money.

Pretty much, but there's a lot of freebies around. When logged in to Second Life go to the search option and look for "freebies". There's lots of things you can get for free, and some people will help the newbies out.
