"Eye opening extreme trucking. Courageous drivers." Stunning Documentary: "Harzadous job in a harsh environment! Great film!" "This show is more suspenseful than most tv shows on today. This show is very addictive, from one episode I could not stop watching these men endure dangerous conditions hauling heavy equipment over a frozen lake of ice, I felt like I was right there with them (and they are far more brave than me, I could not do their job!). The characters in this show, real working men, are the heart of the show, competing with other drivers for money, and enduring dangerous conditions along the way." This is the stuff that Dwight K Schrute watches, along with those on bears, beat farms etc.

Distance is relevant. Drew got teased in series one for hauling shorter distances but not more loads than Rick. The size of the load is not as important. But the value of the goods is. But the number of loads will still determine the total amount of cash. TJ did haul more loads than a few at one point, but his distances dropped.

... things like that make you really want a hovertruck, seeing as how it could go on water, too.

As far as I can remember, it is on a load-weight commission basis. According to Ice Road Truckers series 1, the main goal is to haul as many loads as possible. Then for each load, the weight and value of the load also takes into consideration. Distance is not as relevant. For about 90 days' work in series one from Yellowknife, most did get at least US$200k for their work, even the two who resigned did get at least US$150k.

I am a Canadian living in England at the moment. I worked in Yellowknife at Con Mine in the late 70's and early 80's. As it happens Alex Debagorski is a good friend of mine and has been since 1977.Spent some time in the area where the diamond mines are now,We were drilling on surface taking core samples in the middle 80,s. As for the Canadians over here looking for truckers, it's true however not for the Ice roads, mostly for longhaul in Canada and the lower 48 states.

40's lol. There is a huge canadian campaign over here england and africa to employ people to ice truck in canada. bucketloads of australians leave here to go ice trucking because it pays well, like alot of us go to the mines here.
