I knew a trained herpetologist who worked on programmes like this behind the camera. In reality, they almost never find what they are looking for and so they get a snake from a zoo as back up. They keep them in cool conditions to make them docile and slow. For one of Mick O'Shea's programmes, they had a cobra to film and he took the cobra for a long walk (holding it's tail and steering it, which can do with cobras) until it was exhausted. The Mick O'Shea pretend to find it and play with it.

Austin Stevens Rules. As a photographer, herper, and biologist the dude has my utmost respect for for he treats what he films with the same. There are risks in every aspect of life but being willing to take them distinguish who is passionate about what they do and those just going through the motions.
