The design is universal, since it is a model to achieve air lift. The device is called an "air film bearing" and has been used to move heavy loads on flat floors for many decades. There was a home-built plastic sheet version in THE PHYSICS TEACHER magazine in late 1989 or early 1990, called "human hockey puck." All of this predates the Mythbusters. No matter how much I love them, they did not invent this design.

better lift can be achieved with more slack in the skirt, strong plywood and cutting down the tube on the leaf blower. In my model, (with the things mentioned above) it was able to lift an obese man. However the edges should be protected because otherwise the hovercraft can tilt and dig in on one side, thus destroying the skirt. Duct-taping and innertube being cut and placed around it but I have not done either of those.

looks like a thicker sheet of plywood would be more efficient, cool.
